Midnight High is an indie pop band, based out of Seattle, WA. Blending elements of 80’s synthpop, dream pop, and indie rock with strong female lead vocals, lush harmonies, and modern production, Midnight High embodies a sound that is both contemporary and deeply nostalgic.
The genesis of Midnight High took place during the spring of 2020 when Nik Singleton and Luke Dumke embarked on a creative journey to launch a new musical project with the goal of fostering artistic collaboration, community building, and shared experiences within the local Seattle music scene they had come to know and love. Their efforts resulted in a collection of ten remarkable songs that would eventually develop into their debut full-length album, “Swimming Lessons.” Released in August of 2023, the album pays homage to past aesthetics while embracing contemporary production and showcases a mixture of live drums, electric guitar and bass, classic synthesizers, and layered vocal arrangements with cinematic atmospheres and soundscapes.
Preceding the release of “Swimming Lessons,” in early 2023, the band evolved from a two-piece creative venture into a six-piece live band capable of bringing the lush soundscapes and vocal arrangements of the album to the stage. While Nik Singleton stepped into her role as lead vocalist and Luke Dumke took his place as drummer, Linzy Collins and Kathleen Murray joined as harmony vocalists and synth performers, Skyler Mehal joined on lead guitar, and Tim Van Buren joined on bass guitar. The newly formed 6-piece band has since formed a tight bond and brings a high-energy intensity to the stage with sonically and visually immersive performances, featuring a custom designed lighting rig, rich three-part vocal harmony arrangements, sparkling synths and guitar, and driving, infectious rhythms. The combined result fosters an inclusive atmosphere in which audience members can feel free to let loose, dance, converse, and simply enjoy the vibrant music community around them.
Midnight High's ability to blend nostalgic influences with a modern sonic landscape has quickly garnered them an eager audience in a relatively short time. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists of the past while forging their own distinctive sound, the band effortlessly channels a timeless sense of joy and freedom through their music. “Swimming Lessons" is a testament to their dedication to crafting electrifying and uplifting experiences for their listeners.
